The Evans EMAD Clear 22" was a really pleasant surprise. I expected to prefer the EMAD2 Clear or even the EMAD2 Onyx, but after spending time with all three, the single-ply EMAD ended up being my favourite.
It has a more open and lively character, with plenty of punch while allowing the bass drum to breathe naturally. Compared to the EMAD2 Clear, the differences aren't huge, but the single-ply version feels just a bit more responsive and resonant, with a touch more openness that I really enjoy. Compared to the EMAD2 Onyx, it sounds less compressed and more natural. The EMAD system still gives you excellent control over the low end, but without sacrificing clarity or feel. If you want a kick drum head that's punchy, versatile, and has a slightly more open voice than the two-ply versions, the EMAD Clear 22" is an outstanding choice. Highly recommended.

Love the sound of this head!

It's a single ply, so I put a little dent in it while stretching it out, so be careful with that. (That was a bit silly of me) I use a Vater Vintage Bomber Beater, and the sound I get, combining it with this head, is stunning - low, precise, but boomy and powerful. Its just a joy! And the muffling ring system makes it really easy to tune and control. Hardly anything needed in the bass drum at all.

I definitely recommend this head!

My Favourite Bass Drum Skin

I'm a Remo Pinstripe fan and use those on all my toms, but this is the preferred choice for my bass drum. I like a very low frequency thump, with a medium attack and decay. Nothing else I've tried works as well for me. The included deadening rings allow me to choose different options for small bars where reverb can cause sound issues, right through to large open air stages where I need to open up the sound more. Very durable, highly recommended.
