(Using with an Arcos Brasil pernambuco bow on a Pietro Lombardi 502 cello with Evah Pirazzi Gold strings, around 25°C and 50% humidity.)

Provides enough bite to get all strings started cleanly with relative ease (even with my cello beginner skills, just coming from the violin), but also allows a nice, clean tone throughout the dynamic range. Very little dust, which doesn't seem prone to stick to the varnish, so it's very easy to wipe off.

Only downside is that it's just glued to the cloth. I like to have a "cap" to hold on to, like many other brands have.

perfect rosin
aaal 30.12.2023
obviously there's no perfect rosin, but with this i've been content with it for 4 years. Previously tried jade, melos, andrea, etc, but imo this has great grip without leaving too much dust on the violin or grit in the sound. Might be better stuff out there, but this is good enough to not have to worry about (honestly most commonly used rosins are)

still feels fresh (with some very very fine sandpaper on the surface and good for rosining in new bows

This medium-dark ("amber") rosin is probably the best I have tried for my viola in all of my years of playing. If you do not apply too much(!), the dust remains minimal, the sound takes on a deeper, richer character, and yet the sound is well defined. However, this rosin does not sound as good on my violin, which is already slightly dark and warm. The sound will depend on your playing and instruments, of course, but I play with medium to light weight of the bow arm.

Salchow rosin - simply the best!
Anonim 15.12.2016
Salchow rosin has been an essential part of my viola accessories for over fifteen (yes, 15!) years now. I was introduced to it in their shop in New York City while trying bows. I was a Masters student at Yale at the time. I noticed how my old bow actually got better just by adding this rosin to it while trying other bows. It indeed is way more expensive then other rosins, but I have no doubt that it is well worth the few extra bucks/euros to get the Porsche of rosins. Sound gets crisper and deeper. Bow hair becomes more responsive with it than with any other. I was extremely happy to find it here on Thomann. I had not had a chance to go to New York for a while. My last rosin Salchow broke completely about an year ago. I used few others meanwhile. The difference is unarguably big for me. Thank you Thomann Music House!
