Universal Audio Volt 876 USB Recording Studio

I needed to expand the inputs on my Apollo Twin X, so i spent days comparing the Volt 876 to the other Adat interfaces in this price range. Ultimately, i chosen the Volt 876 for its meters, they are faster and more detailed compared to other interfaces that had meters that were either too slow or too limited.
I carefully compared the Volt's preamps (dry, without vintage or compression) to my Apollo Twin X preamps (of higher quality) and i can happily say i cannot hear any difference whatsoever. I record vocals, electric guitar, bass, singing bowl, frame drum, and even my analog synth (model d) sounds full and satisfying, so i'm very happy with the sound. I don't really use the vintage or compression circuits of the preamps, they sound great but i don't care for them.
I didn't install the Luna software, i just wanted to use this interface as an expander with my Apollo, and the UAD Console software i already have handles the inputs from the Volt perfectly.
One slight complaint: input 1 on the front feels a little loose compared to input 2 and the inputs on the back, but it works fine and at the end of the day.
I also like the "endless" digital encoder gain knobs, i guess they have some kind of acceleration that i actually enjoy, because it allows me more precisely match, for example, the gain of two mics in an A/B type of configuration.
One more detail about comparing preamps: the only slight difference i could notice was, visually by zooming in the waveform to a "microscopic" level, the Apollo Twin X might catch super high frequencies and transients more accurately, but i might be mistaken as i'm not a professional.
Overall i'm satisfied, good job UAD.

I already own the Volt 476p, and based on that it wasn't difficult to upgrade to their current flagship audio interface. What I will say without hesitation is, this is not the best interface on the market. Obviously there are more expensive options for good reason; however if I had the money I would absolutely choose a similarly I/O packaged RME interface. However, money was in the equation here.

What the Volt 876 lacks, including DSP and the top of class pre amps, does not detract significantly from how good this unit performs. Especially for my setup, which includes a couple of synthesizers and the MPC X SE as a central hub.

I primarily use the Volt 876 in standalone mode, as with all of my productions. The build quality is excellent, as is the ease of use to connect and operate the interface with all of my gear.

To say that the Volt 876 is capable of producing professional radio-ready music is somewhat of a stretch. However, creating or producing the right sounds and learning how to mix and master proficiently, especially within an MPC environment; a musician is capable of recording music that comes very, very close to professional level.

Das Volt 876 ersetzt hier bei mir ein Focusrite 18i8 in einem "Homestudio". Und das tut es hervorragend. Ich stellte für mich bereits vor einiger Zeit fest, dass Universal Audio Plugins wohl ,ebenfalls für mich, die besten und geeignetsten sind. So nutze ich seit geraumer Zeit auch LUNA zum recorden.
Da lag es natürlich nahe ein Blick auf dieses Interface zu werfen, bevor ich ca. 17hundert € für ein RME hinlege. Vorweg, es bleibt auch so.
Die Preamps bieten ausreichend Gain und sind auf Ihre Art als neutral zubewerten. Beim zuschalten der 610er Simulation ändert sich dies natürlich, aber sehr subtil. Eine angenehme Erweiterung die tatsächlich etwas vom Original mitbringt und inbesondere das geringe Rauschen im Vergleich mit Plugin-Derivate muss ich loben.
Der 1176er klingt wie ein 1176er und die drei festen Einstellungen sind wirklich brauchbar. Alle Potis fühlen sich trotz Plastik, wertig und haltbar an. Die Leistung der Headphone Preamps ist ebenfalls ausreichend, könnte aber etwas höher sein. Macht hier in meiner Konfiguration aber nix da ich sowieso einen externen Preamp für Kopfhörer nutze. Die Potis der beiden Kophörer und die Eingänge darunter sind mit sehr geringem Abstand verbaut, sodass die Bedinung dort etwas fummelig ist. Das gesamte Layout ist jedoch sinnvoll angeordnet und Bediener freundlich. Das gilt für vorne, wie für hinten.
Alle Funktionen ( ausser den Gainreglern der Kopfhörer ) lassen sich mit der UAD Console, der Mixingsoftware, steuern. Die Autogain Funktion funktioniert klasse, wenn auch ein wenig sehr vorsichtig. Alles auch sehr benutzerfreundlich und funktioniert einwandfrei. An dieser Stelle sollte ich auch erwähnen das die Einbindung in Luna ( inklsv. Hardware Inserts) ein Traum war. Es gab keine Einbindung an der ich großartig teilhaben musste. Das Volt wid in Luna komplett erkannt und eingebunden. Nett. In Cubase funktioniert alles wie immer und an jedem Interface.
Vergleich? schwierig. Aber subjektiv: Im Vergleich zu meinem vorhergehenden Scarett sind Unterschiede in den Preamps deutlich zu hören, ebenso sind die UA Amps ein wenig leistungsfähiger. Die VOLT Peamps klingen einfach besser als die Focusrite Amps. Im Vergleich mit RME Preamps ist auch ein Unterschied deutlich zu hören, wobei ich nicht sagen kann welches Signal besser oder schlechter ist. Vielleicht sind vintage und modern dann doch die richtigen Worte dazu. Ich mag Vintage. Die Latenzen sind ebenfalls ausreichend gut und beim recorden in Luna tatsächlich besonders gut. Und das bei sehr geringen Puffer Einstellungen. Ich bin voll zufrieden mit dem Gerät.
