MODX M8 does all I ever wanted or needed

I previously had a Yamaha SY77 synthesizer and I totally loved it. I composed and played music on it for years. But as soon as I saw and heard the MODX M8, I knew that I needed one.

Two weeks after I received it, I've already composed and recorded a lot of tracks for my YouTube videos. There is a lot to explore and experiment with this synthesizer. The possibilities are virtually endless, and the (many) predefined patches are a joy to explore and play with.

And there is the Super Knob! I was a bit reluctant about it, but I ended up using it a lot to alter the shape of the sounds in realtime!

In short, the MODX M8 does everything I'd ever wanted or needed. As a non-professional, I think that I will hold on to it for many years to come as it fulfills all my criteria and expectancies.

And I'm glad I bought the 88-key variant, with the GHS action. In the past, I played around with an older Yamaha Clavinova CLP-115 and I liked the piano-style keyboard. While the feeling is different, the MODX M8 has a different purpose, and I really like the crossover feeling between a piano and a synthesizer.

Decent upgrade from the original

I had the original MODX8, but I never jived with the keybed. Despite this seemingly being the same GHS-keybed, Yamaha has improved it to make it less noisy, and the velocity seems better calibrated. Also the added AN-X VA-synth engine really makes this a full package, a Jack-of-all-trades, if you will. Also the added front panel controls really help with live performances.

Yamaha MODX M8 - una workstation spettacolare

Ho già avuto due Yamaha MODX8, devo dire che i miglioramenti rispetto alle precedenti sono notevoli. Migliore il keybed, performance aggiuntive rispetto alle precedenti, nuove possibilità di creazione grazie ai tre motori sonori (AN-X, FM-X, AWM2). Con questo strumento non avrai bisogno di altri synth, può fare pressoché tutto. Migliorati anche i comandi fisici, con le funzioni adesso più accessibili in modo diretto, e i menu da display più intuitivi rispetto a prima. Considerato la qualità della workstation (che alla fine è un Montage M8 X con lo chassis in plastica anziché in metallo, senza l'aftertouch e senza secondo display) il prezzo non è elevato!

Heel veel mooie sounds, en haast oneindig veel mogelijkheden om ze aan te passen naar je eigen smaak.

Voor bediening geef ik maar 3 sterren, want ik vind de user interface van het scherm eerlijk gezegd erg gebruiksonvriendelijk. Ik begrijp dat zoveel mogelijkheden complexiteit met zich meebrengen, en het kan zijn dat er ook een legacy meespeelt, maar ik vind de interface veel te rommelig. Het zal wel wennen.

Maar alles bij elkaar echt een mooi instrument waar je ook veel inspiratie uit kunt halen.
