Great alternative to sticks

Martin2818 23.11.2015

The Lightning Rods are perfect for when sticks are a little to full on. I play in a small electric band, originally acoustic and tend to switch between sticks and rods as required between songs. Very bright sounding on gentle cymbal taps and ride. They feel excellent in the hands, nice and light, but plenty of power and volume if required, particularly effective when playing rim shots and flams. I've had one pair for a year now, in use for 6 hours a week in rehearsals and they have some wear, but the dowel rods haven't broken, just have a few nicks as expected from hi hat, rims. I also put a little surgical tape around them towards the end of the rods for a little more protection and I think it provides a little more attack on the snare head. Great price for their longevity and a pleasure to play with.

Excellent compromise

Stephane4242 05.10.2017

You are hitting too hard with your 5Bs (or even your 5As) and you would like a softer stroke? Brushes are great but you can get the attack? Those L-Rods are perfect compromise ! I play in a rock band every weekend. We always start with some soft numbers but yet I need to have some attack on my ride and my toms. I need to play quieter for the first 20 mins until the crowd builds up. Those are perfect for this ! Solid, 6 hickory dowels, yet light and the correct length as standard drumstick (about 16"). I love them.

Works find on Cymbals but not on Toms...

Anonim 18.03.2017

I returned them cause on Toms they sounded strange to my ears (for your info, I am a beginner so this is my beginner opinion). They do work fine on cymbals. Instead I ordered Hot Rods but the German made version (recommended by the seller), called Rohema Rods Prof. Bamboo. I tested these on drums and cymbals in Thomann shop and they are exactly what I need to play drums at home without going deaf or having my family complaining all the time! :)

Not quite satisfied

Tindi 02.10.2019

I was looking for some option to play quite or in acoustic settings. While the rods can sound pretty cool in cymbals I find them a bit weird sounding on the snare and toms. This might also be a matter of taste.
I would rather recommend to get one with more stick in the rod.
